Virtual Variety Show – Entry #5: Ella Laybolt (Grade 8)

Our final entry comes from Ella Laybolt. Ella is a grade 8 student from Mr. Fraser’s homeroom class.

Ella is quite comfortable on stage and has participated in a number of performances during her time at Mount Stewart. Ella is a strong vocalist, while also being able to accompany quite capably on ukulele and guitar. Congratulations on your graduation this year, Ella! We hope you’ll pop back for a song or two in the future!

Virtual Variety Show – Entry #2: Clara Ezekiel (Grade 5)

Our second entry comes from Clara Ezekiel. Clara is a grade 5 student from Ms. Barron’s class.

When this submission came in, I was expecting to hear some music. Clara is very gifted musically and is always keen to share what she has been learning on ukulele and guitar.

Instead of a musical performance, Clara decided to try something new. She is always eager to learn new things, so I’m not at all surprised that she found a creative way to send a message to her fellow Mount Stewart Consolidated students.

Virtual Variety Show – Entry #1: Eva Dingwell (Grade 6)

The Virtual Variety Show submissions weren’t plentiful, but I’m thrilled with the quality of those I’ve received!

We ended up with 5 submissions in total — one for each day of the week! So, the plan is to release one video per day throughout our final week of home learning and shine the spotlight on each of our individual performers.

Our first performer is Eva Dingwell. She is a grade 6 student and an impressive multi-instrumentalist (which you’ll see evidence of in the accompanying video). As her music teacher, I’ve always been impressed with her taste in music. Even though she graduates from our K-6 music program this year, I hope she still feels welcome to swing by the music room to borrow the occasional record.

Ladies and gentleman, please give a warm virtual welcome to Eva (and Jeff) Dingwell!

Karaoke Videos for Virtual Variety Show

The videos below contain karaoke versions of songs that our Grade 1 and Grade 3 classes had nearly mastered before the shutdown. If any of those students wish to participate in the Virtual Variety Show, singing along to one of these videos would be an excellent addition!

Also posted below is Emma Stevens’ Mi’kmaq rendition of “Blackbird.” Our Grade 3 group was so close to putting the finishing touches on a performance of this version, so I would especially encourage any interested students to try it out!

Spring Concert Soundtrack

May 7th was the planned date for our Beatles-themed Spring Concert. Obviously, our plans have changed!

I’m working on ideas to share some of our students’ talents remotely, but in the meantime I thought I would share a playlist I had put together in the initial stages of the planning process.

If you have access to Spotify, follow the link below to some of Mr. Phillips’ favourite Beatles tunes!
